Behind the wheel

The Prosecco Hills. Vineyard roads around Valdobbiadene and Conegliano reward a car with real grip and visibility. Distances are short but the terrain is steep and winding, so a convertible or a Porsche with good low-speed manners suits the pace better than a low, wide supercar.

The Prosecco Road. The signposted Strada del Prosecco links a string of hill towns north of Treviso. It is a slower drive with frequent bends and small village centres, better suited to a mid-morning departure than a fast highway run.

Cortina d'Ampezzo and the Dolomites. Roughly an hour from Mestre puts you on mountain approach roads with long climbs and switchbacks. A car with strong brakes and all-weather tyres matters more here than outright horsepower, especially outside summer.

Lake Garda. The southern shore towns are within an easy hour's drive and get busy with day traffic in high season. Lakeside parking is limited in the centres, so many guests prefer to base the car at a hotel outside town and walk in.

Verona. A short detour off the Garda route, Verona works well as a half-day stop with its historic centre largely closed to cars. Park at the edge and continue on foot; it pairs naturally with a Lake Garda day rather than standing alone.
